I understand exactly how you feel though and (I know this isn't a particularly nice thing to admit) but I'm really glad that it's not just me that sometimes feels this way about my work. I guess it's simply a relationship though, between an illustrator and a story/characters. As much as we want it to work, it's an odd unfathomable equation that sometimes means that no matter how much we work on it, it's just not meant to be; the same as any other relationship.

Whatever you decide, the work you've produced is, without a doubt, absolutely gorgeous. It does shine for me.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6181260093005129105.post-42251988040342152262008-11-20T09:00:00.000-08:002008-11-20T09:00:00.000-08:00Wow Jac, that is quite a post to read. it's actual...Wow Jac, that is quite a post to read. it's actually really brilliant, as you express so well what you are feeling and going through. I do hope that the magic will come, as you have invested so much in to this project....
Your words about about the dynamic of the sketchbook / rough rang many bells for me.... Some (very many!) years ago, I had opportunities with MacMillan, The Arum Press and Laura Ashley - and I blew every single one of them! Hence, I ended up as a Community Worker, I guess! I just couldn't seem to transfer the same energy into 'finished' artwork. Eventually, the publishers, and me, gave up....
Soooo, I do hope Starlight will come good for you - but if not, maybe you will come back to it, as maybe the time is just not right.
Huge Hugs from Scotland,
xxBuskittenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15948633363798945823noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6181260093005129105.post-37423887269478121002008-11-20T08:51:00.000-08:002008-11-20T08:51:00.000-08:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.Buskittenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15948633363798945823noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6181260093005129105.post-83917246854559743752008-11-20T01:59:00.000-08:002008-11-20T01:59:00.000-08:00keep going as you have so much magic in you, it is...keep going as you have so much magic in you, it is too late to stop now. I have so many unfinished stories - it does drag you down I know but we strive for perfection which is hard. You will find your Starlight it is out there.lynxhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12974226072575024733noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6181260093005129105.post-49403400582039079952008-11-19T08:56:00.000-08:002008-11-19T08:56:00.000-08:00Hm, I would have a lot to say about this. Mostly that I totally understand you.

I wonder why I am even trying to become an illustrator, you never get payed and people always make a fuss and ask impossible things of you. :)

But I can't bear the thought of being stuck in this little dark office for another 25 years. So I try to do what I can to get away.

I hope you can find a way, either to travel the story as you wish, or find another path to tread.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
